Teen Female Journals Centers On The Motion Of Gender Equality

The main focus of a lot of teen female periodicals centers on the motion of gender equality. Seventeen Magazine, a popular periodical directed towards young girls in their teens, has many articles focusing around topics such as feminism and sexual assault. Many girls are uneducated when it comes to those topics and their histories. Women’s inequality has been a worldwide issue for centuries, and is commonly found in schools, the workforce, and the media. In these places, women are constantly discriminated against, stereotyped, and objectified. Though President Obama’s speech on the nineteenth a ddresses more recent issues, it isn’t a new problem. Since Vice President Biden launched the Title IX Sexual Violence Guidelines in 2011, which called for schools to educate everyone on campus about the prevention of rape, ending sexual assault has been top-priority for most campuses. Female students are not the only ones taking action; many male students feel strongly about the education and prevention of rape. Jonathan Kalin, a student at Colby College in Maine, was on his school’s basketball team and constantly heard misogynistic locker-room talk. It wasn’t until he saw some of his teammates wearing shirts labeled â€Å"Party with Sluts† that he felt the predatory culture of college hookups had to change. To combat the shirts, he printed out some with the words â€Å"Party With Consent,† and has now sold more than 6,000 to support and help change the ways guys think about girls and hooking up. â€Å"Guys are the ones making girls feel unsafe, so it’s only fair that the rest of us take a stand to change things.
